I Have A Blazer For That

Summer in Rochester is quite difficult to dress accordingly for. Not only are you battling the sporadic heat waves most days, but there are always other variables thrown in the crazy weather mix that throw off your look. One day it will be the humidity and the next it will be the torrential rain combo gale force winds. Therefore one must always be wary when they hear the weatherman on TV or check the days forecast on their phone. Dressing for the Upstate NY weather is easily conquered and accomplished when you have the right shoes and layers. Anything that is casual can be dressed up for a day to night look in the city; ready to head to dinner and drinks after a day out and about.

I love visiting this house in particular because it is so rich in history, yet absolutely gorgeous. You could sit and stare at the flowers or grapes growing for hours on end - each garden is really a sight for sore eyes (in Rochester). All of the design elements and both the exterior/interior details, are SO inspiring. They definitely provide a looking glass to styles past and present, where they meet and how things have evolved.
I love hanging out with my family in the summer and I was so excited to be able to spend time with both of my parents on this Friday outing. I was not feeling good this week so the food, sun, flowers and art were an epic cure.
Personally, I think that I change my style based on my location and plans for the day. Being that I am home working and interning for the summer [ :( ] I have really been experimenting with business casual. Trying to make it work with what I like and what I think my Rochester style seems to be for the summer --> Easy-going, cool, collected and fashion forward. That sounds insane and intense - but you'll see that it really works for this laid-back city with temperamental weather patterns…and people [x]
Without further adieu - my get out there it's SUMMER even though you're in Rochester look.

  • Vintage Blazer: A fashion statement and must have for a chic military inspired look - in any season!
  • SHORTS: Lightweight and drapey; with a slightly raised waist, tie belt, cuffed hems and front pockets.

Vintage Nude Leather Handbag: Perfect for any occasion requiring a lighter carry-all! It also has a chain which is awesome when you're going out and gives a totally different look. (Found at a Vintage Store on Via Faenza, Firenze when I studied abroad - 7(??) Euro and I'm obsessed, but the name of the location is unknown. Similar Style)
Just making sure the lace-up detail was visible…worked out candidly.
Summer happenings - do the random and unexpected.
Espadrille Wedge Sandals: STRAPPY, fun lace up sandals; the nude leather really made the clutch I wanted to use work with the color palette. I always try to keep the range of colors minimal (plain white/cotton shirt) and match any variations to at least one other piece:

[Wedge sandals + clutch = nude --> gold/brown jewelery (Bracelets: Alex & Ani,
Sunglasses: Michael Kors
Ring: Vintage Emerald/Gold, Watch: Brown & Gold Marc Jacobs,
Earrings: Pink and gold flower posts)
Shorts: FabFound at Marshalls
+Blazer --> Gold Buttons: Vintage = Army/Olive shade]
I felt like I was back in Italy with this fountain etc...
Everything was just right! Definitely comfortable enough to walk around some spectacular gardens and see the amazing history this house has to offer!

One of the sprawling yet stunning gardens at this home, the Terrace Garden.
PS: They were setting up for a wedding - how mahhhhjorrr would this be for a ceremony/reception?!?! #lovelovelove

Bright Eyes, Bold Lip

This makeup guru was spotted on our rural, Upstate NY college campus. It's always so easy to pick the Fashion Business students out of a crowd!

Without question, her makeup is done to perfection and it is the perfect way to change your summer routine! Most of us take a step back or relax our makeup/beauty routine for the summer. Whether you are looking for a night out look or something to try while out and about - this will definitely be eye catching.
With such a bold, Vampy red, the simplistic style of her ensemble matched perfectly. As Americans not Parisians, we're more adept and comfortable with wearing/pairing black and white. She nails the look with these chic and fun Rebecca Minkoff fringed flat. Believe it or not, she also got them for a killer price - nearly 70-85% OFF. Shopping and dressing well is no easy feat and she seems to have it down pact. The science of outfit selection is actually easier when you have a bold lip as well. You can go for a more understated look such as these form fitting, distressed skinnys and silky tank top. Another great look to try, even for classes or at your internship could be a comfy summer LBD.

Mechanic Coveralls

This jumpsuit is super comfortable & breathable for a hot summer day! I love the vintage style with the "garage" esque vibes. It's unique, stylish and in turn, a perfect statement piece for the season. Styling as such isn't your first instinct: finding the right heel height for your jumpsuit is crucial.
I paired my LOFT coverall with these awesome-nude & rose gold SEEByChloe sandals. They defintely brought the femininity I was seeking back to the ensemble & with the small vintage handbag it looked super chic. Thus, this look can be dressed up or down for. day at the office, running errands or catching up with friends. To match the color palette & defintely the hues on the sandals - I chose rose gold jewelery. Wrist wear: Bangles & Watch, Rings, Earrings: Givenhchy Funky studs.

SleepwearStreetwear

Undoubtedly a conversation piece in recent months - sleepwear turned streetwear. Every which way you turn, bloggers and designers are reinventing themselves or their closets each season. The look I am sharing today is a little bit of both. I took a different approach with the button-down shirt dress, using it as more of a throw-on, perfect for a cool summer night. It is so much easier - not only is it cooler than a sweater, but it looks an awful lot more au courant as well! You can switch up the shape and create different proportions by switching up the shoes, accessories or adding a waisted-belt.
The slip dress is not one of the "repurposed" closet items, but it is definitely a new way to see sleepwear as a part of my everyday wardrobe. [I am not much of a fancy sleeper and I usually opt for a tank top or old t-shirt and shorts.] Therefore, if you or someone in your household has some secretly chic pajama pieces - try them out. You might just be pleasantly surprised at how they look when paired with your everyday staples and a pair of sandals or heels. Personally, I am also waiting until I find the right moment to wear a pair of my dad's pink and blue, cotton-striped shorts from the 80's.
I kept the colors at bay [black is best] the print of the shirt with the lace and other textiles provided enough to look at. Going with the gold clasp on the sandals, I chose a longer gold, geometric necklace, with a shorter handmade piece to complement. For earrings I picked my favorite: small, black & gold studs. Understated, but they still give a little bling with my hair off of my face. My manicure is a dark pink/magenta Essie polish to subtly support the hue of my shoes. Again, hinting at these rosy hues, the ultimate wrist wear from J.Crew, this jeweled cuff. I love doing my own nails lately, I have never spent less time or money on my nails. Not only does it make my schedule less congested but it has finally given me a chance to try out the millions of polishes I have accumulated [like most women]. Finally, last but definitely not least is the vintage handbag I picked up in May and have been waiting to incorporate. I fell in love with the teardrop-locking closure and of course the amazing condition of the leather.

Style Takeaway: Don't look at the clothes you have in your closet with the same ideas/inspiration from last week's looks. Try something new and go for it, if you don't like it you don't have to wear it. BUT you might also end up finding something totally new and fall in love, like this shirt dress combo slip dress ensemble. Although it might seem mismatched or  just not right, sometimes the unexpected is just what the fashion forecast is calling for. Happy Monday Fashionista/o's xoxo stay tuned!

Thanks Guys, Literally.

One of my all-time favorite looks thus far: Borrowed from the boys style featuring a plaid like vintage blazer & the ultimate boyfriend denim. What I love most about this look however is that it doesn't lose any of the fashion-forward vibes we all hope to achieve. The key I think was keeping the larger portions of the ensemble (i.e t-shirt, denim & blazer) the same; in this case it was definitely casual, loose and cool. The fun part comes when you're able to dress up this menswear inspired look with glam accessories. My choices varied from gold, gilded, jeweled and feminine. I will be continuing to share looks like this from my Style Guru Internship with +CollegeFashionista and break them down a bit more for everyone on here!
